Downloads

As part of your scholarship at the School, you have access to a wide variety of software that you can download for testing and research. Please visit the links below and read the usage restrictions before downloading and installing the software.

  • Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA)
    You will need to login with your UWinID and password to be able to download Microsoft's operating systems, servers and programming languages.

    NOTE: Some students are experiencing problems logging into the new MSDNAA Web Store.  If your account is not working, please visit the OLD MSDNAA STORE until this issue is resolved.
     
  • Channel 8 Download Site (DreamSpark) is the place to download Microsoft's developer and design software free of charge for students. 
  • Open Solaris a high-performance operating system with the latest virtualization, storage and network options. (including ZFS)
  • IT Services Download Area
    UWin ID and password required. The place to go and get SSH clients, FTP clients and other utilities of interest.
  • StarOffice
    An alternative to Microsoft Office, StarOffice is a full-featured office productivity suite that is compatible at a slice of the price.
  • OpenOffice
    The open-source project that StarOffice is based upon. OpenOffice is free.
  • Firefox
    A free Web browser that is faster, more secure and with powerful features that are lacking in some other browsers.

Computer Science students at the University of Windsor enjoy some special advantages for development software. Software vendors provide software for students to use as part of their academic and personal study, both in and out of the classroom. However, the software products cannot be used for commercial or production use. For complete information, check out the legal notices that are part of the downloaded software, or from the vendors' Web sites.
