Alumni Spotlight – Glenn Awad BCS 1999

Native to Windsor, Ontario, Glenn Awad graduated with his Bachelor of Computer Science in 1999. Prior to graduation, Glenn worked full-time at General Motors Transmission Plant for 19 years, while working on his degree part-time. After graduation, Glenn accepted a Programmer/Analyst position at Datanational Corporation in Farmington Hills, Michigan, primarily working in Tier 1 Automotive plants throughout the United States. He also continued to perform consulting in the local Windsor area.

Glenn left Datanational Corporation to start his own business in 2001, working out of a spare bedroom. He began web hosting with his own servers in 2002. He moved to a small shared office for a few years that soon became crowded and noisy with a power-edge 1950 server, along with other equipment. In 2008, File Design Systems Inc. moved to Amy Croft Drive in Tecumseh, Ontario to a much larger and more visible location. File Design Systems currently has 5 work stations along with a Windows server that hold roughly 130,000 files in approximately 8,500 folders. They are currently responsible for about 70 web sites, most of them being connected to mysql databases. File Design recently migrated all web sites from servers within the office to 3rd party hosting companies located in Orem Utah and Columbus Ohio, leaving some internal applications (time reporting) running on Microsoft SQL Server, ASP.net and VB.Net platforms.

File Design Systems Inc. currently employs two full-time and three part-time consultants. Most of the work comes from the Windsor and Michigan area, such as Better Investing, Uni-Solar and Pulte Homes. Primary areas of expertise include database design, programming, reporting, database connected web sites, support, training, service and sales. File Design Systems Inc. is a member of Soft-Tech Alliance and Windsor Chamber of Commerce. They are also associated with community groups such as, Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach, Sport-Fest Windsor (Organ Donor Awareness), Autism Services Inc., and Margaret Grace Centre for Addiction.
