Mark Gryn, Computer Science Oracle Database Administrator, engaged 21 grade school students in a LEGO MindStorm NXT Robotics workshop as part of the Faculty of Human Kinetics’ March Break Camps held from March 16th through March 20th. Mark developed the curriculum for the workshop which was specifically tailored for these eight to twelve year old students. The students spent two hours each day working to build and program a robot to perform a number of tasks.
The students began the program with no programming or LEGO NXT experience. After building a robot from scratch, the students learned how to use the NXT-G programming environment to get the robot to perform a number of different tasks, completing more than 15 programming challenges throughout the week. The majority of the participants stated that they would be interested in returning for an Advanced LEGO workshop. For more pictures…..
