While an undergraduate, CS student Jake Machina did it all. Jake represented the School of Computer Science of the University of Windsor at the Regional ACM competition in Oakville, as well as the CS Games in Montreal in 2006. The intensive training he received prior to the ACM competition allowed his team to place in the top third, beating teams from Purdue, Queen's, and Notre Dame. Jake also sat on the Computer Science Council and was also the Windsor Charity Ball president in 2007. As CSS president, Jake organized and oversaw student events.
In 2007, the Computer Science Society offered eight guest lectures, a movie marathon, a three week long game of Assasins, as well as co-hosting some Google-sponsored events along with Janna Weber. The Computer Science Society was a host of the Windsor Charity Ball raising $3000 for local charities.
When asked which classes he most enjoyed as an undergraduate, Jake didn't hesitate to reply "Definitely the Artificial Intelligence classes. Where else can you get the same personal interaction with a professor?" Because of the high faculty-student ratio, there are a number of opportunities for students to work personally with a professor, either on a class project or on their own research. Asked how he ended up involved in so much, Jake stated "there are a million opportunities on campus, you just have to find one that you fit, and it will open doors. Anyone can do this, you just have to take that first step."
Upon graduation, Jake enrolled in the Master’s program at the University of Windsor in Computer Science working with supervisor Dr. Angela Sodan.
